the CoHo

A LITTLE ABOUT US

Fondly referred to as the CoHo, the Community Engagement House is a campus themed house that seeks to promote its mission of civic engagement and community building. Sponsored by Sewanee's Assistant Outreach Coordinator Loring McDonald, the CoHo serves to provide a space in which individuals representing all walks of the 'Sewanee Experience' may gather together. It aims to bridge the gap between those of the Domain and its many microcosms--as well as those of Sewanee's surrounding counties--through conversation and outreach.

Located behind Ayres Residential Hall, the CoHo is also known as the Richardson House--a small white home that used to belong to one of Sewanee's former professors. Presently, it is led by two co-directors and its house residents. Residents and co-directors are chosen through an application process each spring and work with one another to plan and carry out events throughout the academic year.

WHAT WE DO

COMMUNITY BUILDING

Promote the idea of a civically engaged campus, bridging the gap between college and community and promoting conversations around difference. We serve as a hub for community engagement and as an invitation for the entire community to join an on-going conversation about how we can positively connect and learn about one another.

COFFEE & CONVERSATION

Host monthly Coffee and Conversations featuring community members, alumni, or faculty (from within the University and the larger community) who can provide unique and valuable perspectives on the Sewanee community and beyond.

CAMPUS EVENTS

Host a variety of other community-based events each month unique to the season and the need of the community.

PROVIDE ANSWERS

Residents of the House remain open and available to answer questions and provide guidance to anyone interested in civic engagement

OPEN OUR DOORS

The house serves as a meeting place for any and all organizations that wish to utilize the common areas of the house.

STAY ENGAGED

Pursue our own individual community-driven interests through participation in outside outreach organizations.
